When we Meet

Woodturning classes for beginners are held on Wednesday mornings from 9am to 10am. This time is intended to cater for members who class themselves as beginners and also for experienced turners who want to improve their skills or are interesting in tackling something new.

Instructors: Wally Gaggin and Syd Abraham

Wednesday Afternoon Woodturning

Woodturning classes will be held on Wednesdays between 1pm and 3.30pm. In general it operates as follows:

1. Courses will be approximately 5 to 6 weeks. Other members will still be welcome to use club equipment at this time but course participants would have priority on the lathes.

2. There will be no fees.

3. Jim’s idea is not lessons set at any particular level but he will fulfil more of a monitoring role where each participant sets his/her own project. This will entail bringing their own wood and, if the club tools are not adequate, their own tools each week and then seeking specific advice on the completion of their own projects. The individual will determine whether their project is ongoing from week to week or a new project each week.

When this was proposed on Wednesday (4th May), a show of hands demonstrated that there would be a good deal of interest in this activity.

Instructors: Jim Thallon
